Shanshan, your choices are super healthy, but are you eating enough early in the day?

Breakfast or Lunch out would probably be a much more fun event!!!

I used to fast all day if I knew I was eating out…then it was torture to eat because I would wind up overstuffing myself and not even enjoying the meal!

oops!

4ish Yogurt with berries
5:30ish A salad with lettuce, avo, mini spelt pretzels and dressing.

I make a lot of my own food, it just seems easier, cheaper and I know what is in it!

Anybody else want to share?

:)

Hi annual,

Well, I think I’m eating enough.  I did eat 3 times by 11:30, and I am eating when hungry until satisfied…..it is very interesting to see how much/little I eat on a daily basis and become full.  I remember Jean said things are always changing as your body changes, so instead of being freaked out by it, I’m trying to “go with the flow”!

Here is what I ate yesterday:

8am bowl of cereal with ok
10:30ish two egg sammie with cheese and a ww bagel and some grapes
1ish big salad from cafe rio bean and rice

wasnt hungry till 5 and had a pb & j and an apple

@ 7ish I got hungry again and had another pb & j because my daughters had a dance recital and we were out.

I must not have eaten enough because I was starving when I got home and had some tortilla chips and salsa at 9

I definitely need to work on having more real food with me when I am out.  It seems like I am out always with all my kids activities and I find myself eating mostly granola bars, pb & j’s and apples which are tasty but getting boring.  The NT concepts are so simple and intuitive, however making sure I always have tasty real food when I am hungry is WORK:) But that’s ok, I certainly deserve the effort:)

Hey Krissy,

I found that I really, really needed to eat plenty of protein early in the day.  It gave me more energy, made my hunger less later in the day, and if I was hungry later, lighter things were more satisfying.  Try getting more protein in your early meals (that bagel sandwich sounds fabulous) and see if that helps.

I agree, I think the secret is more protein early in the day.  Here’s my day today:
7:30 protein shake with yogurt
11:30 beef barley soup with 1/2 cheese sandwich, fresh strawberries
3:00 apple slices and peanutbutter
6:00 trail mix and milk in the bleachers (had to pick up a car full of kids and take them to an away baseball game)

It’s 9:30 now and I’m not at all hungry, but I might have some fruit and yogurt before I go to bed.  Days when I have pancakes or a bagel for breakfast, I’m hungry all day.

Krissy, pay careful attention to your early hunger—right away when you get up through about 3.  There should be 4 meals in there.  Salads do not count by themselves.  Cereal does not count by itself either.  If you take care with heavier meals earlier you will be fine in the evening.

I know this is what Matty and annual are saying, but I just thought I’d underline the principles in a different way.

Salads do not count by themselves.  Cereal does not count by itself either.  Jean

Jean, my salads usually include 1/2 can tuna, feta cheese, kalamati olives, tomatoes, artichoke hearts and Bolthouse Ranch dressing.  I use a serving bowl and about 1/2 head of romaine lettuce.  Would that count by itself?  Also, what about cereal such as oatmeal or Bob’s Red Mill 10 grain breakfast cereal.

Thanks for your help!!

I eat cereal, fruit, milk for breakfast. I often eat big salads. Works for me.

I guess I really missed the boat here.  When I said salads, I meant side salads, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, and dressing.  Entre salads, of course, are meals.  I didn’t make myself clear about what a salad is.  Guess it means a whole array of things.  Same with cereal.  A bowl of Cherios with skim milk is a snack—“doesn’t count” as a substantial meal.  Anytime you get info that conflicts with common sense go with common sense,  I didn’t mean to confuse you.

Jean, my confusion was very temporary until the common sense took over.  I know you meant a side salad and those packages of oatmeal are not usually enough or else they are full of sugar.

I am enjoying my peanut butter on Dave’s Killer Bread (yummy, organic) with either Simply Fruit spread or a banana (a childhood favorite).  If I’m going to be gone from the house for awhile, I’ll take a pb&j sandwich, some grapes and some nuts.  I found raw hazelnuts and raw brazil nuts bulk by the pound at Winco, they are yummy.  Plus I make some really good muffins with oatmeal, pumpkin, walnuts that freeze really well, they are good to carry around.

Thanks again, everyone, for the invaluable information on this forum.
