Weight loss techniques for NT

Hi everybody,

Many posts on waiting to lose weight and wondering when/if it will come.  This is a tough time but there are ways to cope that will help with the wait and make the wait shorter too.

There is a 31-day plan for deprogramming obesity at the end of How To Become Naturally Thin By Eating More.  I rarely hear about it, but it is a condensation of all the NT principles.  I think it’s a good tool to use while you wait.  Sometimes you can be humming along and fall into some bad habits.  NT is supposed to be natural and comfortable, but while you are still in the weight loss phase, it is very important to stay vigilant and avoid getting sloppy in your eating.

So, I guess my message is, keep working at refining your eating all along the way.  If you have high famine sensitivity (and most of you do), you have to be willing to be very disciplined in order to press your body into readapting.  Bodies can be stubborn, but they do come along with a lot of encouragement.

Hope this is helpful,
Jean

VERY helpful.  Thank you Jean!  It is so generous that you correspond with us and maintain the commitment to helping us get well.

I resonated with what you posted.  For myself, what keeps me SANE in the gaining/plateau/waiting stage is sticking with the highest quality foods.  When the scale went up and my pants wouldn’t zip, I had to be able to say, “Well Jen, you couldn’t be doing it any ‘better’ without going hungry.”  That thought is my lifeline.  2 months ago I briefly experimented with including borderline/pleasure foods… I found that I couldn’t keep my faith in the NT principles while eating that way.  I probably didn’t gain any more/less weight….but it filled my thoughts with doubt about the principles, pessimism that I would be fat forever, and it just wasn’t worth the loss of peace.  I went back to eating the cleanest diet I can and if nothing else, it keeps me optimistic during this gaining/plateau/waiting stage.

Have a wonderful day NTers!
Jenny

Although I did read the information you mentioned above when I read HTBNTBEM, I didn’t think to apply/use it as a daily tool….I will now.

I’m going to read it again right now!

Hmmm…that was the part of the book I didn’t read but kept meaning to.  I have been thinking about it lately.  I will get it out and read it.

I find myself feeling rebellious about having to eat sometimes.  I have pushed it several times lately.  It will help to get refocused about it.

Thanks!

Jenny,

I am one who also chooses to eat a “clean” diet according to Naturally Thin By Eating More principles. That doesn’t mean I never eat borderline/pleasure foods but when I was learning and gaining weight in that first year or so, I encouraged myself by knowing I was doing the best I could and eating real food on time.

The years I spent working in the fitness/dieting industry gave me insight into what results were produced in other people, not only myself. I knew it wasn’t “just me” who went wrong with diets. I saw many many women come back for the diet again and again, thinking they did something wrong and vowing to try harder this time. And I noticed in the gym that most people didn’t really produce lasting change by working out so hard and so long.
