Is anyone managing this board anymore? When was the last time anyone heard from Jean? Most of the posts now are from spammers. Very sad. I waited so long for this and now it has deteriorated into nonsense.

I too am disappointed that this board does not have much participation. I’ve been doing NT for almost 2 years now and am considering abandoning it so I need support. Lani’s NT website was great but she has moved on and finding support in the real world has been tough. Anyway, I do hope Jean comes back and is able to answer some of our pressing questions.

Hi everybody,
I’m sorry I’ve been out of touch. It’ s been a combination of things, including the spam problem on the forum. It seems we’ve got that under control and I am committed to the discussion, so keep in touch. If there are any specific areas you’d like me to address, let me know. I have some ideas too, and will post as time permits.

Sincerely,
Jean Antonello

Hi Kim and sweettart and everybody,
It’s fine to integrate helpful ideas from other sources as long as you don’t compromise the basic principles of Naturally Thin. For example, using low-carb shakes (with very low or no sugar!) for hunger between meals, limiting breads so you are more likely to eat more fruits and vegetables, focusing on high fiber foods, plenty of water throughout the day, etc. There are thousands of diet tips and tricks in women’s magazines every month. Some are OK. Others definitely are not and will lead straight to the Feast or Famine cycle. If you’re not sure, I’d be glad to help you figure it out.
Sincerely,
Jean Antonello

Thanks Jean.I am getting a little confused I must admit.I have been experimenting with the low carb option.I wanted to know if I should be worrying about counting carbs, fat etc in order to balance what I eat.My natural tendency is to eat tons of carbs, mostly fruit and vegetables. This tends to lead to all day eating. If I make myself eat more lean protein and healthy fats I find I can last longer between meals.I feel anxious and guilty when I am hungry all the time especially when I am with my husband who eats only twice a day.
We will be traveling together later in the year on a big trip.I worry about feeling hungry all the time and I feel embarrassed that I am eating so often.I feel as if I am not acting like an adult who can wait for meals! I thought I had resolved these issues but they just keep coming back. Thanks for all your support.I appreciate that you are extremely busy and have your own life to attend to.

balance in eating

Hi Kim,
It sounds like you are really struggling and not experiencing much freedom or confidence regarding your diet.
I don’t have all the information I need to respond, like why you tend to eat mostly fruits and vegetables, but I’ll try to give you some direction.
Balance in eating is very important for many reasons.  One of them is the necessity of eating at regular intervals which most people have.  Grazing all day may be fine if you are free to do it, but it still interferes with other activities.  Naturally thin people usually do no t eat this way.  It is simply not practical.
Try to integrate a balance of protein, complex carbs and mostly healthy fats into your meals.  You need staying power, so you are satisfied for at least two or three hours between feedings.  The general goal is to have three meals at regular intervals and snacks on demand, preferably one or two between meals at most.  Otherwise, and you have experienced this, your hunger becomes almost a chronic nuisance.  Your hunger is there to serve you and your body, not the other way around.
Sincerely,
Jean Antonello

Thank you so so much Jean. You have really answered my question so well.I really did not know how to manage my hunger and now I have a better idea of how to sustain my energy. I have learned, for example that an omelet for breakfast lasts longer than cereal or yoghurt. That at least gets me through the morning which is my worst time.I am still experimenting with the rest of the day.
Thank you for taking this seriously. It has been a real issue for me as it has intefered with so much of my life such as working and family relationships. My confidence increases so much if I know I can make it through an activity. You have no idea how much anxiety it has caused me worrying about attending things with my family.
I still have a lot of fear when I face a meal about how much is a normal amount to eat and what is appropriate to eat.It is not easy when you live with males with huge appetites.I want also to set a good example to my kids about how and what to eat without the risk of them developing eating disorders. Most people think I am crazy. The average person gives little thought to what they eat and could not understand any of these issues.
Sorry if this has taken us off the topic

Thanks again.

Kim.

the topic

Kim,
I recommended a new topic for support and general questions so people coming to the forum can find these issues easily.  Your question evolved from the “managing this board” topic, but people would not look for this type of information under this topic.  This shift in focus is not uncommon for a forum like this. Don’t worry about it.
It is helpful to start a new topic whenever the person posting is addressing a new focal point.
Sincerely,
Jean Antonello
